OAKLAND MUSEUM FIELD TRIP MARCH 2017 - Out of the Box: The Rise of  Sneaker Culture

My Shoes & I

I purchased my not-so white anymore low top converse in seventh grade. These shoes have taken me to various of places. They have tagged along with me for almost 3 years now, from middle school all the way to present day. They have taken me to places, some with happy memories, many locations that hit me with nostalgia, and even sad ones too. From the mall, to my friend's house, honor's dessert as well, they are the one pair of shoes that I simply refuse to let go of. Even if they're quite dirty now, it just shows how much I love this pair of shoes and how much/far they have taken me

The future is here
The Kanagawa Collection is a collection of shoes that are inspired by the The Great Wave off Kanagawa, also known as The Great Wave or simply The Wave, that is a woodblock print by the Japanese ukiyo-e artist Hokusai. These shoes are designed for people who have simple style, but want to be unique in a way. A fine grey-blue color with a slightly subtle print of The Great Wave of Kanagawa.
These shoes have a low-top lace-up silhouette with a durable canvas upper with metal eyelets, padded tongue and lining, along with a waffle outsole that is helpful for those skaters out there.
These are just some of the many shoes that I researches on while I was on a field trip at the Oakland Museum. Honestly, I found myself more interested in the regular, more basic shoes rather than the unique ones, but that doesn't mean I didn't like them. I enjoyed reading and looking at the 3D printed shoe by Adidas. It looked quite simple, but behind the making of the shoe is a whole different story and side. I also saw two pairs of shoes that reminded me of comic books, with their brights colors and statements. Although I would never wear these shoes, I enjoyed looking at them and reading about their backstory.
